Day 1

Breakfast: Kick off the weekend with breakfast served in a whimsical way at The Mission in Mission Beach. Indulge in a stack of pancakes topped with berry puree and powdered sugar in various fruit flavors. Or try a Latino breakfast plate, small plate or healthy selections like the Zen Breakfast of scrambled egg whites with braised tofu’s, brown rice, grilled zucchini and squash.
Morning: Spend your morning meandering through Balboa Park, with its lush gardens, world-class museums and historic Spanish Colonial revival buildings. Stroll along the vibrant mosaic walkway and through the sculpture garden at the Spanish Village Art Center.

Lunch: After taking in the museums and gardens of Balboa Park, head downtown for lunch at Cafe Sevilla, a Spanish tapas bar and restaurant located in the heart of the historic Gaslamp Quarter. They offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals along with a Cubano sandwich and specialty salads for lunch.
Afternoon: Take a stroll through the historic Gaslamp Quarter with a walking tour of buildings dating to 1874. Cuddle up while taking a tour of the Gaslamp Museum at Davis-Horton House, the district’s oldest building, said to be haunted. A just a short distance away is Chinatown.
Dinner: Dine on California coastal cuisine while watching the sunset and sipping a local beer at World Famous Pacific Beach. The menu changes daily depending on what’s freshest at the market.

Day 2 in San Diego

Breakfast: Start your day at Beaumont’s Eatery, a favorite gathering spot for locals in La Jolla’s Bird Rock seaside community. They offer filling choices like Chilaquiles, breakfast tacos and a breakfast pasole rojo. There’s also traditional egg dishes, buttermilk pancakes and French toast. For something a little lighter and healthier, choose the Rise and Shine acai bowl or oatmeal with organic berries.
Morning: Work off those breakfast calories with a hike at Torrey Pines State Beach and Nature Preserve. Located on the cliffs above Torrey Pines State Beach, the reserve’s well-kept trails wind along the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  Stunning views…and the perfect way to start the day!

Lunch: Take in the view from the patio at Duke’s in La Jolla for lunch. Named for the native Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku (father of modern surfing), Duke’s offers salads, burgers, pork sandwiches, steak and fries, a seared ahi bowl, fish tacos and more – all served with the aloha spirit.
Afternoon: After lunch, wander through La Jolla, the hilly seaside community with a tunnel to Sunny Jim’s Cave, a historical landmark in California. Explore the trails and ancient volcanic tide pools at Scripps Coastal Reserve, a not-to-miss part of a couple’s getaway in San Diego.
Dinner: Enjoy another beautiful California sunset from the Ocean Terrace at George’s On the Cove in La Jolla, named one of the top spots for rooftop dining. Start with a pear and endive salad, hummus, mussels or chili calamari. Enjoy a glass of wine, fine scotch or one of their specialty cocktails. Entrees include salmon, spaghetti with clams, a roasted organic chicken breast, filet mignon, duck and more. If you left room for dessert, try a decadent selection with a nightcap like a La Jolla Coffee or a cold brew martini.
