Get Set for 2020 California Winter Games

Competition heats up during the California State Winter Games, which start in mid-February and continue through early March.

California State Games is a multi-sport, Olympic-style competition for amateur athletes of all ages and abilities. The Games are part of the National Congress of State Games and encourage positive personal development through physical fitness and education.

During the weekend of Summer Games, more than 10,000 compete in one of the 23 sports at venues throughout San Diego. While the Winter Games don’t include as many sports, it is still a world-class experience for the athletes and their families. The highlight of the Games is the Opening Ceremonies with an athlete parade, fireworks, entertainment and even the iconic torch lighting.

Winter Games include Youth Ice Hockey on Feb. 14-17 at several venues around the city including Escondido Ice-plex, Poway Ice Center, San Diego Ice Arena, Salvation Army Kroc Center and UTC Ice.

While the Roller-Skating competitions take place in Orange, figure skating and gymnastics are set in our area. Both take place March 7-8, with Figure Skating competitions at the San Diego Ice Arena and Gymnastics at the Toby Wells YMCA.
